May 2010
Dear friends at All Saints,
I wrote a couple of months ago about Jon Phillips and Tim Dann, two of our youth workers, moving on this summer to new things. I am delighted to write now that Sam Durdant-Hollamby has been appointed as our new Youth and Drama Worker as from 1st September 2010. Sam is completing a degree at Chester University, where he was the President of the Christian Union, is a member of All Saints, and has worked with the B-It Theatre Company in the past. He and Katy are getting married at All Saints in July and, after a month off, he will take up his new role at the beginning of September. I’m very excited about Sam’s appointment and believe that he brings many gifts and much experience in drama and Christian work to enrich our life. I’m also delighted that Cat will still be with us and believe that we have the basis of a very strong team.
We shall want to take time to thank Jon, Cyd and James, and Tim and Abbie, for the work they have done at All Saints. We are planning a Farewell Lunch on Sunday 11th July after the 10.45am service. Although they won’t finish with us until later in August, we want to have an opportunity to celebrate their ministry before members of the congregation go away on holiday. Please will you put that date in your diary and we will give more details in due course.
As well as thanking Jon and Tim, and Cat, for their work, it’s important that we thank all those involved in youth and children’s ministry, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity. I’d like to thank Stephen and Cathy Batchelor for their leadership of the Sunday Club team, and all those who teach and help in Sunday Club and Pathfinders. Every time I visit couples to talk about baptism and thanksgiving I’m reminded of the church’s responsibility to help and encourage children to be faithful in private prayer and public worship, to live by trust in God and to come to Confirmation. Thank you to those who are dedicated to praying for the young people in their care and to introducing them to the Lord Jesus through their teaching and example. As a church family, it’s important that we pray for the leaders regularly that they will stay fresh in their own walk with Christ and be renewed in their enthusiasm and gifts for this work.
Finally, it looks as though the sale of the current Vicarage and the construction of a new Vicarage in the grounds will be going ahead. The Diocese has had the present Vicarage valued and they are now making plans to sell – anyone looking for a move to a bigger house in Hoole which is handy for church? We will be housed in rented accommodation while the new house is constructed, so it looks as though there will be a period of change for all of us.
